‘Together Taking Learning Above and Beyond’

Performing Arts

Music

Music is a universal language. Our music education engages and inspires pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increases their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Music is taught through the integrated topics of the Creative Curriculum in all Year groups. As pupils progress, they develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination.

Our youngest children are encouraged to sing in class and their experience of music continues to widen and deepen as they progress through Junior School. They learn to listen and appraise, compose and perform.

We have a well-equipped, dedicated music room for teaching in the Junior school.  In addition, music is always woven through assemblies, either performing or listening, and is performed in most of the Year Group productions.

Many children take the opportunity to sing in our Infant and Junior school choirs and / or learn an instrument through the visiting peripatetic teachers. We offer a range of lessons in piano, woodwind, brass, percussion and strings.

Performing Arts

Drama is valued as a major art form and also for its wider contribution to developing pupils’ memory, confidence, and teamwork skills.

Pupils’ gain their first experience of performing in a school play in Nursery or Acorn when they take part in dedicated productions. As they grow, they will have the opportunity to get involved in Year Group productions, and we often use drama as a way of illuminating and bringing to life other study topics.

As well as the schools’ halls, at the Junior School we also have a dedicated Drama Studio used regularly for classes.

Extra-curricular arts clubs include: art, creative, drama, dance, up-cycling, knitting & sewing. Please see the club list for full details.

The pupils’ creative output is regularly celebrated and can be seen on display throughout the School. We are proud to be playing our part in developing the imaginative powers of all our pupils and in bringing on the next generation of artists and designers.
